Dread newb here 👋🏼 My dreads are a little over two months old and I'm starting to get a lot of knotting at the root. But not only in the good way. They are wanting to Congo in places. I pull them apart but a loose "web" remains. My question is do I just keep that up until they mature or do I need to separate all the hairs (clear the web completely). It doesn't really bother me as far as aesthetically but I don't want to end up with a bunch of congos. I can wait it out if I'm doing the right thing by just pulling them in opposite directions and leaving the remaining "web". I hope this made sense 😅
They're at that age they really tighten & stick to each other as they are doing a lot of tightening themselves. As time goes on you'll start to notice doing this less & less after each wash until eventually you won't really have to separate them ever. I think it's pretty much after they're done going through the massive shrinking stage.
The 'web' is pretty normal, most people with mature dreads have it. It can be a positive because it helps to hide the scalp. As long as you separate, it won't be a problem that you have a little criss-crossing going on.
