Greetings from Michigan, all! I've been scrolling through everyone's timelines feeling inspired. Sometimes I have a love/hate relationship with my locs, so I come here to feel hopeful haha. I have only recently been taking photos of my dreads for the purpose of comparison, so a lot of the beginning photos are selfies.
I first dreaded my hair with the help of a friend around two or three years ago. We did the twist and rip method. Unfortunately I just wasn't as happy with my dreads and didn't feel like they were locking up. I ended up brushing them all out and immediately regretting that decision. Fast forward to maybe 10 months ago. An ex of mine started to slowly dread the underneath of my hair. October 29 2016 I went to a professional shop in Ann Arbor and had my whole head dreaded. Here's my hair from then to now
First day of hair being fully dreaded October 29 2017
Decided to bleach my hair (my natural color is dirty blonde) 2 weeks
Hair bleached and looking like hay lol 2 weeks
Sunny day at work 2 1/2 weeks
Winter with my soulmate Annabelle! 1 1/2 months!
3 months and 1 week
Just shy of 4 months
Yesterday! 4 months and 3 weeks
My first and most formed loc
I have soooo many loops, they are shrinking up so much!
That's what I'm working with so far! Thanks for looking 😎😈

chesh: Hey rye, under the "Dreadlock FAQ" >>> "The Basics" there is information on washing on the bottom. In my experience so far it has been best to wash my dreads when they get itchy and use a dry shampoo to help with the oils that are produced naturally.

SketchyMagpie: Hey. It differs on hair type but generally speaking, you can lose up to between 25-50% of the length. Most people will be around the 25%-35% mark, ish.

FriendlyGoblin: Hey guys, I'm thinking of getting dreadlocks and I was wondering how much they'd shrink. I have medium-thick hair that is decently damaged and is 20" thick from scalp to tip. I'm also white. I'm thinking of getting them so they're life sized ruler
