Hey guys! I've had my dreads for a while (not really sure how long.) So it'/s been kind of a struggle sometimes, just because my hair is really messy. They don't look perfect, have the lump/bump look, and the frizzy tips. I get the comments constantly like "why don't they look like [...], They look messy etc. Should they look perfect? Should i cut them? How do i improve the look? Any advice is appreciated
I'm not sure how far into the dread journey you are, but it's likely that you're undergoing the perfectly natural stage where your locks begin to come undone before they truly start to knot up. This occurs because your hair is moving around, which is a good sign, so although it can be frustrating right now it means that you're on the right path.
I would suggest taking a look in the timelines section of the forum (or click the picture of lazydreads on the left of the page to go to his timeline video featuring users from this site) to see how people's hair changes over a course of time and give you an idea of what to expect.
GRR I hate when people say things like that to me! As if I asked for their approval of my hair! My hair is still in the messy stage (2.5 years now) and may always be like this since I'm quite lazy about it and it seems like like being in this state. I do have fully formed dreads and lots of loose hair that will at times get tangled it's all part of my hair's personality.
Just ignore the comments and KEEP GOING. I am at 2 years natural dreads. When I first started, there were times I had to wear a heascarf to work and a few of my friends said it was approaching the type of mess that was a bit embarrassing to be seen with me in public haha. But it passed and mine are looking great. The moment where I really just totally stopped caring what was going on was when I was most happy with my hair.

littl3birdy: Hey nessdeyali , bumps and loops are part of the process. Combing out the dreads and restarting will just lead to the same result. Check out some of the timelines here and you will see lots of bumps.

sketchymagpie: Hey V. It does occasionally, but the problem is that a lot of people use Tapatalk to access the site on their phones and you can't see this chat box on that, so of the small number of active users here currently, even less of them know this exists ha.
